Introducing Student Services Careers Guidance The Careers Advisers can help you if you: • are not sure you are on the right course • want to talk to someone about what you could do at the end of the course • want to find out about the types of work you could be suited • need information on specific careers • are interested in higher education • need help with application forms, CVs and interviews Call in and make an appointment for a careers interview

Introducing Student Services Counselling The counsellors are here to help you deal with any personal problems which are affecting you. Issues students come with include: • anxiety or stress • relationship difficulties • alcohol or drug problems • domestic violence • low self esteem

Introducing Student Services Enrichment Besides studying, you can get involved in lots of activities while you are at College. These are called ‘enrichment’ and may include: • sports and outdoor activities • music and drama • volunteering • DJ skills • ‘Stop Smoking’ workshops The programme changes each year. Look at the notice board on the Mezz for the latest info – and let us know what you’re interested in!

Introducing Student Services Financial/Welfare Advice The Welfare team can give you advice on anything to do with the costs of coming to College including: • course costs • welfare benefits • Student Support Fund • Education Maintenance Allowance/Adult Learning Grant • travel costs • student loans (higher education only) • accommodation You can drop in and speak to an adviser, or you may need to make an appointment if you have an in-depth enquiry

If you get involved you can: • improve student life at Bedford College • organise fun and fund-raising activities • represent your fellow students on College boards • produce a newsletter You don’t need any experience – just lots of enthusiasm and a little bit of time. Introducing Student Services Student Personal Advisers If you are 16 -19 and on a full-time course you will have a Student Personal Adviser from Student Services who will work with you and your tutor to make sure you attend regularly and punctually, and help you sort out any problems. The Student Personal Advisers are: Beccy, Jenny, Kevin and Saima and they will introduce themselves to you when you start College.

Introducing Student Services Tutors Your Tutor is there to help you succeed on your course. They will help you with personal development and career planning , and check that you are progressing well with your studies. If you are a full-time student (and, in some cases, part-time) you will have regular meetings with your Tutor, both individually and in groups. Tutorials are an important part of your course and attendance is compulsory!

Introducing Student Services Where are we? You can find us on the Mezz floor of the Tower Block at the main College site. Our Help Desk is open: • Monday – Thursday 9. 00 am – 5. 00 pm • Friday 9. 00 am – 4. 30 pm • Evenings by appointment We can often deal with quick enquiries on the spot, but if you need more in depth help we will make you an appointment to see an Adviser. We also visit Enterprise House, the Plumbing Centre and Vehicle Training Centre each week.
