Directions: n n n Review closed-ended versus open-ended questions. Create a list of ten (10) open-ended questions. Interview another student using these openended questions. Write an introduction for this student using the information learned. Present this student to the class.

Closed-Ended Questions: n n Encourage a short or single-word answer Not helpful to ask during an interview

Open-Ended Questions: n n Give the interviewee an opportunity to provide insight and explanation Begin with words or phrases such as: n n n Why How Tell me about… Often not technically a question but a statement which implicitly asks for a response Cannot be answered with a simple “yes” or “no”

Closed-Ended versus Open-Ended: n n n Do you get along well with your parents? Who will you vote for this election? Is there any other information you need? n n n Tell me about your relationship with your parents. What do you think about the candidates in this election? How will this information help you?

Revision: n Revise each of the following closed-ended questions to open-ended questions: n n n 1. Is it fun to be on the football team? 2. How many children are in your family? 3.
