Essential Question EQ: How would you stay safe on the internet?

Internet Safety • Let an adult know when you’re using the internet. • Tell an adult when a stranger messages or e-mails. • Never share personal information. • Never tell anyone your password.

Keep Yourself Safe • Do you know them? • Always ask an adult if it’s okay. • Ignore popups and spammers

Netiquette • Rules on how to behave online. • Remember the human. • Know where you are in cyberspace. • Respect peoples time • Make yourself look good • Respect peoples privacy

Flame Wars • Communication that leads to arguments online • Avoid sarcastic humor • Disrespectful comments

Communication • Never use “IM” or “text language” • Ex: BRB, TTYL, LOL, G 2 G • Don’t use all caps. • Type instead of attaching • Use easy to read fonts • Don’t spam classmates

Copyright • Copyright is a document that protects • Own work • Ex: essays, poems, art work, etc.

Software • Illegal to copy software • Can download if you pay • Cannot share with anyone

Photocopy • Music • No more than 10% of the whole song copied • Text Materials • Poem: 250 words • Articles, Stories, and Essays: 2, 500 words • One form of diagram or chart

Public Domain • No one can own it. • Open to the public • Ex: Documents, music, poems, etc.

Fair Use • Any copying of copyrighted material done for a limited and “transformative” purpose. • Examples: criticize, or parody a copyrighted work. • Can be done without permission from the copyright owner.

Copyright Media Rules • Motion media or music • 10% of the media or up to 3 minutes of media
