Introduction • Internet Safety is keeping safe over the internet. It is protecting yourself while being on the internet, it could be keeping your bank details safe or making sure that your not open files from untrusted sites. Internet safety is also protecting yourself on social network sites such as facebook, this could be to do with personal details or photos which you do not want people to find out.
Personal Details • Personal details are details which are personal to you, this could be your name, D. O. B or simply your bank details or any other confidential details. • Don’t give out your home address or telephone number to people who you have never met or talked to before on the internet • Choose a nickname which does represent you in anyway in chat rooms and newsgroups when your first sign up. • If you get a email saying you have a problem with your computer and they need your password, delete you’re the email without responding.
Denial Of Service Attacks A denial-of-service attack (Do. S) targets the computer and network connection of an individual or a website to jam the network with frivolous information. There are many types of DOS attacks; • Ping flood • Ping of death • Fraggle • SYN Flood • Teardrop • The most malicious type of DOS is distributed denial of service. • How To Prevent a DOS attack • There is not a complete way to prevent this form happening but precautionary action is maintaining anti-virus software, correctly configuring firewall settings, installing network filters and using email filtering software.
Cyber bullying • Cyber bullying is where you attack someone internet by threatening or abusing someone over the internet. There are many different types of cyber bullying, here a few of them; • Harassment is when the electronic bully repeatedly sends insulting, hurtful, rude, insulting messages. • Flaming is a type of online fight. It is an act of sending or posting electronic messages that are deliberately hostile, insulting, mean, angry or insulting to one person. • Images and videos are a rapidly growing concern. Due to the accessibility of camera’s on mobile phones, photographs and videos of unsuspecting victims, taken in bathrooms changing rooms or other compromising situations. Some images are emailed to other people, while others are published on video sites such as You. Tube.
Email Attachments From Unknown Sources • Attachments are files sent by email, your email will show a paper clip meaning that they have a file attached. • Never open an attachment form an unknown email. • Most emails you may get might be from people you know like your friends so in that case they are probably virus free. But also they could still contain viruses and unwanted programmes so you should still scan each attachment.
Downloading Files From Untrusted Websites • Many websites are usually untrusted but have download links to stuff you want, either videos or games. • Many people go on these websites with out checking the safety of it or seeing if it’s a well known website to be trusted. • When you click on these links it allows viruses to be put on your computer and then completely ruins it. How to check if it’s a trusted website without no viruses • When loading up the website do a scan to see if there any viruses on it • When looking at a file on which you are going to download make sure you scan it to check if there any viruses.
