Internet Research Cons Pros Available 24 hours a day Pages can be updated quicker then paper sources Some newspapers, magazines, and encyclopedia's are available online Some books not available in the library are available online Many different types of media online Organizing sources (in Word) Anyone can create a webpage - Out of 4 billion accessible websites only 6% have educational content Average lifespan of a webpage is 75 days Google only indexed less then 18% of all webpages
Brain Activity Scientists discovered that searching on the internet exercises the mind far more than reading and was similar to completing crosswords and puzzles Brain scans showed that going online stimulated larger parts of the brain than the relatively passive activity of reading a novel or non-fiction book
Library Research Cons Pros Knowledgeable librarians Time and access They have all been published therefore they are credible sources Research must be read where as Internet as other sources (videos, voice clips) Information in books has been fact checked Students must be physically present in the library to access information Universal data base for all libraries May be difficult to find relevant information Ideal learning environments Material may be outdated Information is more specific Late fees
Conclusion Research done over 3 continents discovered that academic achievement has a direct relation to the quality of a school’s library services Class room teachers have noted that the quality of the information has decreased with an increase in access to the internet Based on our research we have found that library tends to be better quality where as the internet is more convenient We believe that both sources of research should be graded the same
