Basic informations The International System of Units is the modern form of the metric system and it is generally a system devised around the convenience of the number ten. It is the world's most widely used and oldest system of measurement, both in everyday commerce and in science. Adopted by the 11 th General Conference on Weights and Measures in 1960, it is abbreviated SI in all languages.
