Engineering Science School & Graduate School of EngineeringΣScience • The school and Graduate School of Engineering Science are unique in name and character in Japan. Their purpose is to develop scientists with a keen interest in practical technology and engineers with a firm grasp of the basic sciences, who may use their experience to develop new technology. • The School of Engineering Science was established in April 1961. In April 1997, the School of Engineering Science was recognized to develop engineering science based on a new concept. The School of Engineering Science is characterized as an institution, which undertakes not only the exploration of novel aspects of engineering that directly reflect modern developments in basic sciences, but the cultivation of new types of engineers and scientists with a creative sense of technology. OUSSEP Σ Engineering Science • The Osaka University Short-term Student Exchange Program (OUSSEP) provides liberal arts subjects to international students in English. • Students have the choice of participating in the program for two semesters (Full-year OUSSEP) or one semester only (Half year OUSSEP). • OUSSEP is open to students from institutions that have concluded an Inter-University (or Inter-Faculty) Student Exchange Agreement with Osaka University that include provisions for a mutual tuition waiver. U Σ Engineering Science • Students will be graded on the basis of laboratory work, participation in seminars, oral presentations and reports. • In addition to the courses provided as part of the Frontier. Lab@Osaka. U Program students will also be eligible to participate International Exchange Subjects and Japanese language classes. • A limited number of rooms will be made available at JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) Osaka International Center. The monthly fee is around 40, 000 JPY with a daily breakfast. The daily rate is 1, 330 JPY for stays in excess of 14 nights but 2, 681 JPY for stays up to 14 nights. Regular Short-term Exchange Programs Σ Engineering Science • This program is a short-term study program designed for undergraduate and graduate students from institutions that have concluded an inter-university (for inter-faculty) Student Exchange Agreement with Osaka University including provisions for a mutual tuition waiver. • Only students approved by the office responsible for student exchange at the applicant’s home institution can apply for this program. • Applicants based on the inter-university agreement with Osaka University are required to submit “Regular Student Exchange Course Inter-University Applicant Package” to International Student Affairs Division of Osaka University. This application package is to be sent to the partner universities every February. Osaka University
