What is Google Sketchup? Google Sketchup is a free 3 D modeling program produced by Google. It's easier to learn than other 3 D modeling programs. It helps to develop creativity, imagination and understanding of geometry.

Barrel Vault A segment of a cylinder that spans as an arch

Groined vault (also known as cross vault) is a vault produced by the intersection at right angles of two barrel vaults. There is a Cross vault cellar (Křížový sklep) in Znojmo, one of the largest cellars in the Czech republic.

Equilateral pointed arch

Hexagonal stellar vault A vault over the central space is set on a regular hexagon. It is actually an intersection of cylidrical surfaces. We used equilateral pointed arch.

Florence Dome step by step Eight ribs have a form of pointed arch (pointed fifth =quinto acuto). The arcs are 4/5 of the span. The centres of the arcs are inside the span of the arch.

In this step is demonstrated surface closing, edge hiding and texture filling.

HOW TO CREATE SOLIDS OF REVOLUTION

The main part of every solid of revolution is circle.

Most important solid is the sphere. You have to make one more circle inside the first circle, but with another orientation.

Now, most important tool for making solids of revolution is „Follow me. “ You can find it in => Tools => Follow me, or you can use icon from the picture.

Insert one circle and choose tool „Follow me. “ Now click on second circle and immediately you have a sphere.

You can change type of solid. You can use another „rotational shape“. Here it is triangle, we´ll rotate triangle around the blue axis. And it is cone.

How to create a cylinder? 1) Create a circle and use the tool „Push/Pull“ 2) Create a circle and rectagle (see picture) and use the tool „Follow me“

The type of solid depends on generating shape.
