Conference Attendance • Reminder that in person conference attendance is required – – Zoom is offered for individuals on VA rotations (seniors only), IRL COC, ACCESS If using Zoom, you MUST turn on your camera to receive credit You MUST drop off pagers outside Bean (exception is the Code Blue Pager) Chiefs will get you if you need to answer a page • Med Alum and Bean are usually both available for in person attendance • If we are unable to safely socially distance, a Chief will dismiss you back to your team room where you can log on to Zoom • You will not be marked for attendance if you arrive after 12: 10 Internal Medicine Residency Program

VA Updates • We have transitioned from VA to UIHC pagers at all times – Call team will still carry VA Code Pager – If you do not receive a pager about RRT/Code, please notify VA Chief ASAP – Plug your pager into night intern before you leave (call UIHC operator or use Smart. Web) • ONLY inpatient residents should park on the top level of the garage in spots labeled “on-call resident” – If all spots full, email Amanda Heuszel. These spots are for our INPATIENT residents only – Residents on VA ED, neurology, or COC are NOT allowed to park in these spots. Doing so will risk us losing parking privileges for all residents • VA now using SLUMS over MOCA for those with cognitive concerns • Reminder to use 2 patient identifiers at all times (DOB and name) • Nick Arnold taking over as VA chief on Monday, November 9 th – Pager 9698, cell 573 -231 -9591 Internal Medicine Residency Program
VA Updates - COVID • COVID+ patients can be on any inpatient unit • Wear surgical mask at all times, even when entering VA; NO CLOTH MASKS • If using PAPR, you must keep your surgical mask on underneath • Testing for COVID is now on Biofire respiratory panel (includes flu) Internal Medicine Residency Program
VA Updates - COVID • Effective 10/29/20 0700, COVID-19 patients going to VA teaching teams • Max of 2 COVID-19 patients per resident team • When 1 -2 COVID-19 patients admitted to a team, cap decreases to 12 – No redistribution to get to cap • COVID-19 patients admitted directly to ICU/SD will be admitted by pulm/ICU staff ONLY, not resident teams • No redistribution of patients from GOLD team – If there are extreme circumstances, a Chief will reach out to your team Internal Medicine Residency Program

General Reminders UIHC Chief Roger Struble took over as UIHC chief on Monday October 26 th Pager 9884, cell 785 -342 -6930 Morning Report In person attendance required for anyone not on VA ER, ACC or access clinics If you need to Zoom, email the chiefs on the attendance email and let them know Wards 101 Attendance for interns now mandatory while on inpatient rotations Do not attend if it is your day off and you are at home You must turn on your camera Internal Medicine Residency Program
UIHC Updates • Do not remove patient drug allergies from the medical chart – If concerned that record is not accurate and listed allergy is a side effect may consult with pharmacy. • MICU – Reminder that acuity is high right now and good communication between interns, residents, and fellows is paramount for patient care. Residents are there to help interns with all patients. Do not be afraid to escalate to staff on call if needed. Internal Medicine Residency Program
COVID Updates Flu-like illness or cold symptoms? Page chief oncall immediately Then call ILI 319 -356 -3631 – Resident is responsible for following up test results. – Generally resulted in 4 -6 hours. • You CAN look at your own EPIC chart, just DO NOT change anything – Call chief on call IMMEDIATELY with test result. – Resident expected back to work as soon as possible if test negative. COVID Updates • All services are functioning normally • Jeopardy 3 -5 is updated through January 3 rd, 2021 • Program policy: if you are pregnant, you will not carry the code pager • COVID-19 expected to spike during flu season. COVID Updates • Cards teaching: – SARS-Co. V-2 positive patients transfer to CV hospitalist or CMP – Exception is if needing vasoactive drips then stay on cards teaching • If 1 -2 COVID-19 patients are on cards teaching, the cap drops to 10 • Maximum of 2 COVID-19 patients allowed on service Internal Medicine Residency Program
