INTERFERON-BASED VETERINARY Belarusian. PREPARATIONS State University Minsk, Belarus 2012

We propose a new class of veterinary preparations, based on recombinant proteins – interferons (IFNs). The key characteristic of our preparations is that active ingredients (interferons) are identical to proteins, which are produced in animal’s organism after onset of infectious process. There is no need to inject foreign substances in the organism and You can treat, for example, horse or chick using equine or chicken alpha IFN, respectively. Recombinant IFNs (chicken, equine, bovine etc. ), containing in our preparations, are produced in Escherichia coli cells using recombinant DNA technology. Originality and novelty of our developments are protected by patents in Belarus and Eur. As. EC.

What is interferon? Interferons are a class of multifunctional proteins, produced in human or animal organism in response to entry of different viruses or another pathological factors. Three types of molecules: Type I IFNs: -alpha(α), -beta(β), -delta(δ), -epsilon(ε), -kappa(κ), -omega(ω), -tau(τ), -zeta(ζ), etc. Type II IFNs: -gamma(γ) Type III IFNs: -lambda(λ)

Main activities of IFNs: l a r ivi t n A tic i s a r a p i Ant IFNs Antiproliferative Imm uno An tib mod ulat ac te ory ria l

Cells that secrete IFN have pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs) to detect molecules associated with infection. Once secreted, IFN binds to the receptors on neighbouring uninfected cells (as well as on the initial infected cell) and activates an intracellular signalling cascade, leading to upregulation of several hundred IFN-responsive genes, many of which have direct or indirect antiviral action.

Species-specificity of interferons Chicken IFN ≠ Bovine IFN

Interferon-based preparations Interferon-alpha + Interferon-alpha (equine, chicken, vitamins (A, D 3, E, bovine etc. ) C) Ø Viral diseases Ø Hypovitaminosis Ø Immunomodulator Ø Stress conditions Ø Viral diseases Ø Immunomodulator Interferon-alpha + antibiotics (gentamycin, lincomycin, enrofloxacin, tylosin) Ø Mixed infections Ø Immunomodulator

Recombinant bovine IFN Recombinant equine IFN Main effects: 1 – antiviral activity; 2 – inhibition of growth and development of intracellular pathogens (chlamydiae, rickettsia, protozoa, etc. ); 3 - increase of lysozyme activity of blood serum; 4 – increase of bactericidal activity of blood serum ; 5 – antitoxic and antistress effect; 6 – macrophages stimulation and increase of phagocytosis; 7 – increase of antibodies production; 8 – activation of native killers;

Interferon-alpha + vitamins Vitamin A takes part in important oxidative processes Vitamin D 3 takes part in regulation of energy and mineral metabolism Vitamin Е influences on metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates and minerals Vitamin C increases protective functions of the organism Recombinant IFN-alpha acts as protective, immunomodulatory and antistress factor; it possesses antiinflammatory activity and increases resistance of the organism.

Residual quantities Milk and meat – no limitations!!!

Interferon-alpha + antibiotics (gentamycin, lincomycin, enrofloxacin, tylosin) Recombinant interferon-alpha, containing in preparations, provides: non-specific prolonging antiviral defense; inhibition of growth and development of intracellular pathogens (chlamydiae, rickettsia, protozoa, etc. ); immunostimulatory and antistress effect; increase of lysozyme and bactericidal activity of blood serum; • manyfold increase of antibacterial activity of antibiotics and simultaneous elimination of their immunodepressive effect on animal’s organism! Antibiotic, containing in preparation, provides : having increased lysozyme and bactericidal activity of blood serum due to the interferon action, antibiotic in low therapeutic concentrations ensures full and rapid elimination of sensitive pathogenic bacteria; developed formulation provides prolonging mode of action of antibiotics; no immunodepression; due to the complex action of interferon and antibiotic there is dramatic minimization of risk associated with formation of resistant strains.
