New Mobile UI • Linked. UI – A new mobile UI to deliver social services and to support communication channels – Fetches and links content from existing services – Uses hypertext navigation for presentation and interaction
Two Key Ideas • Service Aggregation – Combining multiple services or communication channels in one system or UI • Hypertext Navigation – The structure of nodes and links as a medium of thinking and communication for users

User Study • 12 users (8 male, 4 female) • Recruited through a mailing list • Paid for their time
Experiment • Test the usability of the benchmark device against the device with Linked. UI • Three Tasks – Openly browse and think aloud – Follow a contact – Locate a Flickr photo and a Twitter post
Results • 11 out of 12 participants preferred Linked. UI compared to the benchmark device.
Conclusions • Users preferred the new approach • Eliminates shortcomings of web browser – Switching between apps – Delays loading web pages – Web pages not optimized for small screen • Problems – Information overload
