What Current Issues are the AMA Concerned With? banning prescription drug and medical device ads, or direct-to-consumer advertising. legislation to require warnings on medical and recreation marijuana for effects on pregnancy. Medicaid payment parity-physicians seeing Medicaid patients should be paid at least the Medicare rate Medical liability reform, especially limits on noneconomic damages Reducing barriers of passing on new and improved medical knowledge to students and the general public
What is the AMA’s Political Ideology? The AMA has traditionally supported Republican candidates, but has recently begun to shift its support towards Democratic candidates. Though it does not endorse specific candidates, it donates money towards a certain political party. They generally support the political party that introduces more ideas for medical legislation and supports their ideas. Their shift from conservative to liberal led to a decline in support, forcing them to become more politically neutral.
Issues of the AMA Print warning on all marijuana products for use during pregnancy and breast-feeding, both medical and recreational-some states have rejected legislation to ban selling marijuana to pregnant women or putting up signs in shops. http: //www. cbsnews. com/news/pot-useduring-pregnancy-a-risk-needs-warnings/ New policy passed to ensure consumers have access to quality healthcare, proposed mergers of the nations four biggest insurance companies http: //www. ama-assn. org/ama/pub/news/2015 -11 -17 consumer-access-health-care. page Focused on providing more affordable prescription drugs, want to do so by reducing advertising on TV and radio, because commercial impact drives up prices. http: //www. ama-assn. org/ama/pub/news/2015 -11 -17 -ban -consumer-prescription-drug-advertising. page
AMA Effectiveness Long history of winning wars helped raise the social statuses of the U. S. medical profession. helped to create and implement educational and licensing standards for doctors. emphasized a highly scientific approach to medical care as well. Originally a group of physicians, membership has dropped drastically because the group has become more activist Press releases repeatedly produced, supporting a ban on alcohol and drug commercials. The information in these journals has been proven false before. Lost credibility recently because they have provided false and weak information, their seal of approval means nothing now because they have no way of testing the products they approve
