INTERACTIONS AMONG ORGANISMS/ADAPTATIONS
Biosphere: the parts of Earth and the surrounds atmosphere where there is life. Community: all the populations of different species that live together in the same area at the same time. Population: all the organisms of the same species living together in the same place at the same time.
Competition: the demand for resources, such as food, water, and shelter, in short supply in a community. Limiting factor: anything that restricts the size of the population. Population Density: the size of a population compared to the amount of space available.
Biotic Potential: the potential for growth of a population if it could grow in perfect conditions with no limiting factors. Carrying Capacity: the largest number of individuals of one species that an environment can support.
INTERACTIONS AMONG ORGANISMS Limiting factors Resource in an environment is scarce…limits the amount of organisms in an eco system Carrying capacity = total amount an ecosystem can support
INTERACTIONS AMONG ORGANISMS 1. Competition = struggle with one another or the environment to survive 2. Predator/Prey = predator eats prey Ex. 3. Bird eats worm Symbiosis = close relationship Mutualism = both organisms benefit Commensalism = one organisms benefits, the other is unaffected Parasitism = one benefits, one is harmed Ex. Parasite vs host
