Intent of this Document This document consists of three elements: Code of Academic Conduct, Short educational material, Pledge We encourage a faculty member to use this material at the beginning of a semester to urge the students to recall the importance of academic integrity and self-respect We suggest a faculty member find some time to do the following during the first lecture of a semester: Review the contents of the Code of Academic Conduct with the students (p 2 – p 9) Engage in a short discussion to promote the sense of self-respect and integrity (p 10 – p 13) Have the students read out loud the Pledge (p 14)

Code of Academic Conduct All students in the department of Industrial & Systems Engineering

Code of Academic Conduct All students in the department of Industrial & Systems Engineering at KAIST are expected to maintain high standards of academic honesty and integrity This Code of Academic Conduct exists to support high standards of behavior and to maintain just learning environment Violation of the Code of Academic Conduct will result in disciplinary sanctions that include Probation, Suspension or Expulsion from KAIST

Code of Academic Conduct Students in Industrial & Systems Engineering at KAIST Are responsible to know what constitutes cheating Are required to do their own work unless otherwise allowed by the instructor Are expected to help prevent cheating by reminding others about this Code and not helping other students gain an unfair advantage Shall not disrupt classes or interfere with the teaching or learning environment Must respect the copyright privileges of works produced by faculty, the Institute, and other copyright holders

Code of Academic Conduct Judicial Procedures • If a violation of the Code is admitted or established, instructors shall impose a grade penalty to the student; The instructor has full discretion to determine the level of a grade penalty; A grade penalty ranges from giving “ 0 point” to the work in question (e. g. , homework) to assigning “F” toward the final grade of the class • If a suspected cheating is identified during an exam, instructors or teaching assistants shall direct a student to leave a class immediately; Grade penalty for cheating in an exam is “F” • For all incidents of suspected violation of the Code, faculty members shall submit a report to the Department Head • For a submitted report, the department’s Steering Committee will determine the need for disciplinary sanction beyond the grade penalty (probation, suspension, expulsion) and accordingly file the case to the Student Discipline Committee at KAIST • If the student contests a report of cheating or other misconduct, the matter must be resolved by a hearing before the Steering Committee
