Integrated Earth System Model (i. ESM) Open Source Code Science § In the i. ESM, a two-way coupling between the human and earth systems is included within the same modeling framework, making it possible to reliably quantify human-earth system interactions and models. § V 1. 0 of i. ESM predicts that medium-severity future increases in CO 2 emissions will enhance crop fertilization, resulting in 10 -percent higher agricultural productivity by the end of the 21 st century. Software § The Global Change Assessment Model (GCAM) and Community Earth System Model (CESM) previously operated as separate models, but now have successfully been combined into the same simulation framework. Get i. ESM v 1. 0 The i. ESM v 1. 0 code and input sets are available for download: github. com/ACME-Climate/i. ESM 1 ESM i. ESM replaces one-way asynchronous interactions between human land use and the earth system (left) with two-way synchronous interactions (right); early experiments reveal the potential for increased future agricultural productivity. Impact § The public release of the open-source i. ESM software code will make it possible for a broad community of users to experiment with different approaches to simulate additional human-Earth system interactions such as these.
