Instructional Objectives are what you want your students to do Instructional Objectives are: Specific Outcome based Measurable Describe student behavior A teacher writes instructional objectives However, a teacher and students can both use instructional objectives as a means of communication Well-written instructional objectives have four parts Audience Behavior Condition (what will be used) Degree Writing instructional objectives is important because they are the key to effective instruction They serve as a guide for students They help a teacher to be prepared with the materials needed and the procedures to be used They determine how students will be evaluated
Bloom’s “Levels of Thinking” fits into the creation of instructional objectives by: Helping a teacher to fit activities performed to standards desired based on the level of thinking that the students can do Helping to specify what action can be done based on the verbage used in each of Bloom’s Levels build student knowledge The relationship between objectives, standards, activities, and evaluations can be seen this way: Begin with the standard o Decide which standard should be taught Use “Bloom’s Levels of Thinking” to connect verbage in standard to intellectual level of behavior o Decide which action (student products) should be performed to accomplish the standard Write objective with: o Student as audience o Bloom’s and standard’s verbage as behavior o Needed materials as the condition The evaluation will assess the outcome of the instructional objective
