Institute of Public Works Australia Engineers Australia, Victoria Division, Regional Groups JANUARY 2011 FLOODS DEBRIEF FORUM Echuca, Victoria Tuesday 15 – Wednesday 16 March 2011 IPWEA and Engineers Australia are convening a day and a half debriefing session to enable Local Government Engineers in particular and other Regional Operatives to discuss the events of the January floods. This Event will be an opportunity for Engineers to come together to share common experiences and will also allow for preparation and planning strategies for future natural disaster events in order to prevent similar incidents. Presentation will be given by John Forrest MHR, F. I. E. Aust, Federal Member for Mallee and Engineer, on the implications of the January 2011 Flood Events. Other presentations are being arranged.
Wednesday 16 March Morning 8: 30 am – 10. 30 am Emergency Management Issues A range of guest speakers – SES, CMA, Hydrology – Legal implications – share information on emergency plans and flood planning. Nick Ronan will also present detail on legal responsibilities. “Find out what worked and what did not work in the Flood Events. ” 10: 30 am – 12: 30 pm Infrastructure issues: Levee Banks, Structures Protection, Sandbagging, Drainage – Flash Flooding Midday 12: 30 pm – 1: 30 pm Lunch Afternoon 1: 30 pm – 3 pm Open forum “What do we all have to do for better preparedness and management, next flood or storm event. ” 3 pm – 3: 30 pm Preparation for Communiqué and outputs for release by Engineers Australia and IPWEA. Close 3: 30 pm Enjoy afternoon tea and prepare to conclude the trip. Registration and Costs $100 person for the Forum plus accommodation (see below).
