Installation Workshop LS 2 Electrical Power Copper cables & Electronics Rack Optical Fibres Laurent Roy 16/05/2018
General Electrical Power: 230/400 V in Cavern or Surface performed by CERN Electrical service: EN/EL Major Activities EL equipment New Data Centre - Surface 2 Transformers, HV, LV cables, control ü Preparation finished Planned by EL (Nov 2018) New Cooling Plants (CO 2, Novec) Distribution with repowering, new 20 k. VA UPS ü Preparation finished Planned by EL (Jan 2019) Minor Activities Vacuum for ‘Scifi Novec’ close to Detector in D 3 D 01 rack to power via UPS ü will be added with ‘Cooling Detector’ activity Moving of VELO racks on C 3 platform To give space for new ‘Main chiller’ (CO 2+Novec), cables to move ü Declared in EL system ‘Vertical Slice’ Test 2 New Racks for Online in SX 8 ü EL informed For additional major installation/modification Already too late for LS 2 (EL resources allocated) For small requests: still possible, but expect delays !
Low Voltage, High Voltage & Other (CAN, SPECS…) for Detector • Have to be switched off for the cabling works in the cable trays & on the detectors (for Safety) All main breakers for D 3 + B 1 + D 2 Control (CAN, Specs…) switched off beginning of LS 2 [EN/EL] Each project leader will receive a ‘Fiche de consignation’ [Kevin+Laurent] (no cabling works allowed before) ‘Fiche’ to return when cabling works finished [each Project leader] Detectors power On again [EL + Laurent] (when ‘long distance cabling’ also finished: ~ beginning of 2020) Monday 3 th Dec: smoothly switch off by the Sub Detectors Tuesday 4 th Dec: Electrical Power switched off (Except VELO: until 7 th January 2019 ? for tests) For cabling works in cable trays or on the detectors where other cables will be kept in place : people must have a ‘Habilitation Electrique’ (lowest level if power Off) A dedicated LHCb training for people concerned could be organised (to check with HSE + Safety Training) [Laurent] •
Copper Cables (‘long distance’: Detector - Barracks) • Needs Cables to remove ü known New cables to install, Connectors ü Not yet completely finished !! ~ 20% missing ? still to finalise by several sub-detectors. Rack configuration ü Not yet completely finished ! Additional ‘individual meetings’ will continue with each sub-detector to finalise the needs List of documents: Sub-detector Copper cables EDMS Doc VELO edms 1707863 RICH 1 edms 1707865 UT edms 1694336 Sci-Fi edms 1707867 RICH 2 edms 1707868 CALO edms 1707869 MUON edms 1707870
Copper Cables • Drums storage A permanent LHCb cable storage will be built in summer [Mark] • Cables Orders Usually 2 -6 months delay with Cern store, could be more due to LS 2 Will be established [Laurent with SD Budget codes] each time a Sub-Detector ready (‘cabling‘ document finalised) • Cables Data Base (cables to remove, to install) Will be updated with new Fence Interface [each Sub-Detector] Rk: interface developed for ‘long distance’ cables but available also for ‘on detector’ cables https: //lbfence. cern. ch/lhcb/cables/ • Print labels from Fence [Joel] To implement, positives tests already done
Electronics Rack • Attribution done: all Rack needs were met In D 3: 6 OT racks become Sci. Fi racks , 6 ST racks become UT In the Bunker: 4 M 1 racks become 2 Sci. Fi + 2 RICH 2 On the Balcony: 1 VELO Pile. Up rack becomes UT rack Sci. Fi UT UT
Electronics Rack • Racks reconfiguration location of equipment (Maraton, Power supplies, Patch Panels…) to define in Edms ‘cabling documents’ [each Sub-Detector] The rails, water (flexible pipes), air flow (turbine), smoke detection… will be modified according to documents [Cabling team] Rack config example from VELO (Sacha) All TELL 1 Boards and TELL 1 Crates (+Fan + Power supply) ‘Old’ CO 2 bottles (date expired) Turbines not reused in UX 85 B (M 1, VELO) will be removed by the ‘Cabling team’ Rk: NA 62 propose to recuperate the TELL 1+Crates+Wiener PS other volunteers ?
Copper Cables • Cables trays updated in CATIA [Jacky] Exact position taken during EYET Ready for the long distance cable (space, lengths of cables to order…) Allows better integration of other services (RICH 1, UT, VELO: dense area). • Cables Work Packages well advanced [Laurent] more details in June: scaffoldings, nacelles, people training, RP wastes, procedure, planning, safety Scaffoldings, nacelles position Constrains for cables dismounting / RP are taken into account (3 Zones for wastes)
Copper Cables • Prepare a ‘cabling team’ (training, access, EPI, tools, …) [Laurent] 4 people come in October – November 2018 • LS 2 Planning : Start as soon as possible to dismount the cables (power Off in cable trays) In // racks ‘common’ equipment removal and racks reconfiguration To finish (cables in place + connectors + tests) before shielding wall closing: beginning of 2020 Cabling works 12 first months Open cable trays Identification of cables RP measurements Start removable of cables Q 1 -2019 Remove cables Q 2 -2019 Cable trays : modification/installation Start install long distance copper cables Q 3 - 2019 Install long distance copper cables Q 4 -2019 Connectors - Tests Q 1 -2020 --> Shielding Wall closing 03/2020

Conclusion ELECTRICAL Power: Major works well under way If minor 230 -400 V installation is requested to EN/EL : long delay to expect from now ‘Detectors power’ switched off the 4 th Dec for ~ 1 year ‘Habilitation electrique’ training to follow by people concerned end of 2018 COPPER Cables & RACK Configuration: Cable trays integration done, work package documents well advanced Sub-detectors have to finalise the needs Cables + connectors to order as soon as possible to avoid surprises with the delays OPTICAL Fibres: Supply (Trunk + Patch cords) Tender launched, a contract sign expected in June if the ‘One Detector’ Patch Cords pre-series received are not satisfying, a ‘Plan B’ to foresee by UT, RICH, SCi. Fi to order elesewhere. Installation: Preparation progress well, the tender will be send in Sept The ‘cabling table’ have to be completed by each sub detector
