Inspiring the World about Space – Through Art Current Activity: 2012 Humans in Space Youth Art Competition www. humansinspaceart. org • Project designed to inspire the world about space exploration through education and dialogue • NASA partnership with USRA, DLR & others • Youth aged 10 -18 years old worldwide invited to relay their visions of “How will humans use science and technology to explore space, and what mysteries will we uncover? ” through visual, literary, musical, or video artwork submitted online • Artwork submission due date October 21 st, 2012 • Youth artwork and messages will inspire others through multimedia displays and performances held worldwide in 2013 -2014, including events associated with the international Humans in Space Symposium, Cologne, Germany, July 2013 & various venues associated with NASA’s 50 Years of Solar System Exploration • International space community encouraged to sign up to be judges to evaluate the artwork September 25, 2012 Near Future Activity: Undergraduate Challenge • Pilot Study begins Fall 2012 to test simplified version of the 2012 Humans in Space Youth Art Competition targeting undergraduateaged participants • Closed call for 5 -10 participating teams of undergraduates: Identifying participants now • All artwork to be submitted as video uplinked to You. Tube. • Due date February 28, 2013 for submissions • Appropriate videos will be included in displays and performances worldwide associated with the 2012 Humans in Space Youth Art Competition Past Activity: 2010 Humans in Space Youth Art Competition • Participants 10 -18 year olds worldwide invited to address thematic question “What is the future of human spaceflight and why is it important? ” • 600 artists participated from 22 countries • 30 displays & performances & continuous Online Gallery presented to inspire viewers worldwide 1
