INSPIRATION FOR SHOPPING SPREE

OVERVIEW Shopping Spree is a comedy/horror film. My inspiration and research should focus on looking at these types of films, whether that be solely horror films, comedy films or horror-comedies. Look at TV series too not just films, they have become much more popular recently and have huge production value and quality. I want everything to flow well, the costumes and props have to fit the supermarket and go with the script writers vision.

PRODUCTIO N DESIGN HINTS The production design team left hints at the demons name in the set dressing. The name “Valak” appears several times in the home scene, which is important to the plot as they need to work at the demons name to end it, and it has been in front of them all along. I like the idea of props and set dressing alluding to key plot points and I would like to do the same in Shopping Spree – leaving hints to the killer, Jane. Here you can see the parts where the production design hinted at the demon.

ZOMBIELAN D

VISUALS Zombieland is a horror comedy film, like Shopping Spree. There is a supermarket scene which has inspired me for the set dressing. The supermarket here is relatively clean with hints of mess as if someone has knocked stuff off the shelf in a hurry. It makes it feel authentic. The scene also utilises the space well with the props, using the space to create symmetry and making it visualising pleasing. I am going to emulate the mess set dressing style for Shopping Spree.

HARRY POTTER

COSTUME FOR PAMELA After watching Harry Potter, I took a strong liking to the character Sybil Trelawney. I liked her quirky look, it compliments her crazy persona well. She stands out, giving the character likeability and complimenting the scrip writers intentions. I feel this would work well for Pamela. She is a strong character in the film, she has a crazy, quirky persona and the costume has to match that!

SCREAM QUEENS

COSTUME FOR JANE Scream Queens is a horror comedy TV series created by Fox. I liked the look of one certain character, Chanel Oberlin. She is highly fashionable, stylised and has a strong look. I think this could work for Jane. I see Jane as an older version of Chanel. Trying to become successful and famous, slightly bitchy and rude but will take pride in their looks. I am basing the look of Jane on Chanel. It will look visually great for the camera team too!

HEROE S

COSTUME FOR ASHIR Heroes is a superhero TV series. I liked the design for the character Suresh. He was designed with simplicity, nothing too complex and over the top but still has a strong look. I thought his would be good for Ashir, he isn’t as main of a character as most others but he still is important so I want to try emulate what they have done with Suresh for Ashir. I like the shirt and jeans combo.
