What is Inquiry-based learning? Capacity Building Series (2013) research article outlines that Inquiry-based learning is a student-centered approach where students learning is stimulated by their queries or problems. • In Inquiry-based learning both teachers and students are responsible for learning. •
Why is it important? • Inquiry- Based learning approach allows learning by triggering natural curiosity of students and facilitating them to seek answers to their queries • This approach indulge students in active learning environment • Inquiry-based learning strategy will help teachers realize their roles in paving a way for their students in finding their own answers, unlike in traditional classrooms where students are directly given answers. • This process of seeking answers to the questions or deriving solutions to a problem improves various skills such as critical thinking, collaboration and sense of responsibility for their own learning.
What next? ü Every human has a natural instinct to respond to a problem or a question. Inquiry-based learning approach provokes learning with the help of questions or problems. ü Inquiry-based learning approach is an effective method to stimulate intrinsic urge to learn. ü With the understanding of Inquiry-based learning, I apprehend that I am responsible for my own learning. ü I am therefore determined to maintain a forever curious and intuitive perspective to gain knowledge. ü This learning outlook will improve my collaborative and troubleshooting skills.
