Initial FMP treatment By Luke Wright
Initial research • • So far I have looked into a handful of murders but in great depth. These murders include Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, The Zodiac and Charles Manson, I have also looked into the fiction serial killer in American Psycho a great deal as that was one of the most interesting takes I've fond on a fictional serial killer so far. My reasoning for this research is to try to get a gasp and understand why these non-fictional serial killers have done what they’ve done and to try find how what they’ve done rubs off on the fictional serial killers of film. From this I hope to gain enough understanding and have enough knowledge to forge my own serial killer for my short film.
Message • • • I'm not particularly certain on my message yet, but I do know I plan to grip my audience yet educate them at the same time by making people realize the reasoning behind a murders intention to kill. I guess I want to play on popular culture as currently serial killers are a big part of digital entertainment with murder documentaries on the rise, so my audience therefore is fairly broad. I want to explore why people are so obsessed with the ‘wrong’ as such, more in particularly serial killers as it is evident both in film and documentary history that content on murder does exceptionally well with an audience. Even in my own case I'm extremely fascinated with something I'm forbidden by law to take part in yet I'm not a rebellious charter who wants to break the law and nether are the vast majority of people consuming this content. The message I would therefore want to send, if I figure this complex ideology out is to say why your watching my film hopefully fascinated by my serial killer why your fascinated through my serial killer whether that be through subtext or explicitly.
Insanity • • I like the psychological elements of my research as we as humans are curious to the details, the how's and if’s of a case. I’m curious to what psychologies play into my audience fascination for this and what psychologies play into murders and the reasoning's for them doing what they do. Insanity is a word associated with people mentally struggling or confused I want to explore what it means to be insane what causes you to get to a state of insanity, how that effects the brain and why it effects the brain in a certain way.
Audience • • • From my first two weeks of find in’s audience is my main focus or what I want to learn about I’m striving to understand the link between the members of my audience and their fascination with crimes that if they saw happening in the general public they’d run from and call the police, but yet at home the sit in comfort and have pleasure in witnessing inflicted pain and the taking of life's. I want to look into audience theories and watch many films to understand how these films look to find out how mine should look and why a film of this certain content conforms to audience needs and desires and why this ‘look’ and portrayal of crimes is appealing. Initially I am thinking to have my character as a representation of the audience to help the audience further understand why they have these ‘needs’ and ‘desires’ for content of unlawful behavior, I also think by having my character be a representation of the audience I will be able to heighten audience engagements as the realize uncanny parallels to enhance the fear factor.
