Lesson 4 - Learning Intention • Use your knowledge of Inheritance to make rebops • Work out the genotype and phenotype of rebop crosses
What we know. . • We receive two copies of each gene- one from each parent • Each pair of genes controls a different characteristic • Dominant genes mask the effect of recessive genes • Dominant genes are represented by a capital letter and recessive by a small letter
Task- making rebops • Two heterozygous parents (for each of the characteristics) were crossed and reproduce:
Task- making rebops • Pick one male and one female gene (at random) for each characteristic • Work out what the offspring’s genotype and phenotype will be and write down in your jotter (use the table) • Make the rebop based on the genetic information you have GENOTYPE PHENOTYPE
AA- Two antenna Aa- two antenna aa- 0 antenna TT- curly tail Tt- curly tail tt- straight tail BB = 3 body segments Bb = 3 body segments bb = 2 body segments MM- 2 green humps Mm- 2 green humps mm- 1 green humps EE- 2 eyes Ee- 2 eyes ee- 1 eye XX = female XY = male QQ- red nose Qq- orange nose qq- yellow nose LL = Blue legs Ll = Blue legs ll = red legs
Comparing Rebops • Are there any rebops which are identical? • Are there any rebops which have the same features as their parents?
Next steps • Pick a suitable partner for your rebop and work out the possible genotype of the offspring
