INFORMATIVE ESSAY • Synonyms (AKA): • Explanatory • Expository • Purpose: • Seeks to explain • Ex. – If you were to write an informative/explanatory/expository essay about your aunt, you would simply tell me about your aunt. • Ex. – If you were to write an informative/explanatory/expository essay about how to construct a paper airplane, you would write an essay giving directions.

Your thesis sentences keeps you from getting lost when you are writing. ALWAYS, ALWAYS write out your thesis sentence. • Three (3) Body Paragraphs • The “meat” of the essay • Where you further explain and add details. • Conclusion • Restate theis • Sum it up! • Each section should focus solely on what you are attempting to explain! • Don’t deviate from the subject (Don’t go off topic)
