Informational Reading: Session 2 Teaching Points § Informational text readers know informational texts span a range of genres and have multiple purposes (i. e. , to inform and entertain, to offer help or advice, to persuade, to involve, to entertain). § Genre is a category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter. § This knowledge enables them to identify and summarize the central idea.
