digital story telling • Is new and exciting way to create and tell stories using modern technology tools • through digital story telling we can now use the computers, software and the internet to tell stories • digital story combines the story element with digital content to create a short, highly personal movies • digital story telling can be instructional; persuasive, historical or reflective: provides you with the opportunity to say whatever you wish, in whatever way you wish.
Elements of digital story telling • Graphics- still images created digitally with graphics software • Text- any written element that is displayed in the final short film • Film/Video animation- moving live footage • Sound- creates mood or emotion (sound colour) • Transition- are used to move from one item of content to another stay safe
visual effects • generated by software • they make digital story more ‘film like’ • some examples of visual effects include: • camera movement ( tilts and pans; and etc. on page 31)
Types of digital story telling Fictional (entertainment) storytelling • imaginative inventions • story teller manipulate actual events and alter and interpret the truth for dramatic effects • plot/story line makes storytelling intense • characters are created to make it emotional • examples range from; feature films, cartoon animation, TV series and etc. Non fictional ( informative)storytelling • intention is to present information and facts • they are created to persuade, inform, educate, sell product/service, create awareness, create debate and etc. • examples range from news and news features, financial reports, documentaries, talk shows and debates
Creation of digital storytelling • before you create effective and entertaining digital stories consider: • medium ( entertainment sector) • four common sectors • • Film Television animation games

Conflict • conflict is the most important element of story telling • it suggest physical or verbal fighting • conflict in other context it suggest showing two opposing elements, ideas, moral option, cultures or value system. • Refer to Table of conflict at page 35 to further understand types of conflict we can use to invent our stories. press the shape to return to previous slide
The world of the story • Entertainment stories need a convincing world in which story takes place • The world does not have to be realistic • Script writer needs to be clear though on how the world operate, what the world looks like, and what are the rules of the world • Consistent with the world return to slide 8
Suspension of the disbelief • suspension of disbelief refers to an effect that occurs when audience are watching a visual story • audience want to be emotionally involved in the world of the story • they must be prepared to ‘believe’ in time-travel, living a different planet • remember as soon as something happens in story to remind the audience that they are just watching TV story, they come back to real world and lose the mood that allowed them to believe all the strange in the story return to slide 8 when you press arrow
Story structure • story structure is organisation of story to be effective • structure is usually defined in the beginning, middle or end • can be represented in a screenplay as Act I, Act III • story structure follows the following pattern: • Act I introduces a hero and normal world • Act I usually ends with an event that cause the hero to start the journey • Read page 36 for how Acts in story structure is organised return to slide 8 when you press arrow
