GED stands for General Education Development. What is GED? The GED is a test that measures whether a student’s academic skills are equivalent to those of high school seniors.

About the GED The GED includes four content areas: Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science. If you pass the test, you are awarded a credential or diploma, that for the most part, awards you the same benefits as a high school diploma when it comes to jobs or college.

GED vs. HSED Students who have not earned a high school diploma may choose to complete a GED or a HSED (High School Equivalency Diploma). While both tests are similar in content, the HSED requires that you complete some additional coursework.
