Inequality While in some parts of our globe people are dying from hunger, people in other parts of our world are dying from obesity. The food production rate exceeds the population growth rate, meaning that enough food is produced in order to feed everyone. Hunger is the number one health problem today and the main reason for this problem is inequality. Our purpose is to raise awareness for this problem and encourage people to take action with regard to their food disposal!
Astonishing facts Did you know that there approximately 870 million undernourished people in the world today? This means 1 in every 8 people goes to bed hungry each night. One in third death of all children under five are due to under nutrition. 925 million people do not have enough food to eat (more than the populations of Canada, USA, and the EU) Women make up just over half of the world’s population, but they account for over 60% of the world’s hunger. 98% of the world’s undernourished people live in developing countries. The continent Asia and the Pacific Region hosts over half the world’s population and nearly two thirds of the world’s hungry people.
Inequality in food distribution Of course, money is needed in order to solve the world food problem. Famine is one of the most biggest problems the worlds’ population is facing today and thinking about hungry children touches us all. However, there is also something really unfair about the worlds’ food problem, since there actually is enough food on the planet in order to feed all the people. According to Oxfam Novib the root cause of the world food problem is inequality.
Food disposal So, how can we reduce the inequality in the worlds’ food distribution’? One of the largest contributing factors to the inequality in food is food disposal in well developed countries. A CNN report reveals that 40% of U. S. food is wasted and that this waste is build up of all parts of the food supply chain
Watch hunger stop campaign These facts astonished us. Apparently, we where not the only ones blown away by these awful facts and decided to take action, the famous fashion designer Michael Kors also did! Michael Kors and The United Nations World Food Programme have joined forces in order to stop the number one health problem in the world: famine! Just take a look at this video:
