Damodar River Basin (DVC System) – An Example from West Bengal § Issues: ² DVC (Damodar Valley Corporation) System Managed jointly by Indian Government and two States – West Bengal and Jharkhand ² Major Dams by DVC – Multiple Objectives – presently tilted towards Hydro-electric Power Generation ² Up-Stream and Catchment and origin in Jharkhand ² Downstream areas in West Bengal – Prone to floods and dry periods – Erratic Climatic changes

Damodar River Basin (DVC System) – An Example from West Bengal (Contd. ) §

Damodar River Basin (DVC System) – An Example from West Bengal (Contd. ) § Issues: ² No major Modernization and upgradation of hydraulic structures/canal systems ² Low utilization of Irrigation Potential ² No Integrated Flood and Irrigation Management Systems ² Early Warning System semiautomated ² Problems in command area development and inviting public participation

Damodar River Basin (DVC System) – An Example from West Bengal (Contd. ) §
