Individual Investigation Lesson 7 – Conclusion
The conclusion must be based on the evidence used within the research. You should use a reflective approach showing how the stages are connected to give a convincing answer to the research question or statement in the title. Consider: 1. What did the evidence show in relation to the aims? 2. Were the aims met, did they go beyond them, or in fact fail to reach the aims? 3. Was the research question or research statement answered or completed? You should aim to write 300 – 500 words
WAGOLL – Pass grade “My first aim was to look for expert views an opinions and I feel as though I have completed this aim. I have created a section for each country while looking into the title of my Individual Project, which includes opinions of the general public as well as those of people with knowledge in the subject. I have also created a questionnaire, which contained open and closed questions that are very effective way of putting together an overall opinion of what people think. This has really enabled me to answer my first aim. ” Which words best describe the conclusion - The first thing you should have noticed is that the pupil has drawn a link between conclusion and original aim. This is very important. It’s also an attempt at coming to a conclusion by listing all the strategies. This means that its appropriate. However, you should also note that the conclusion was descriptive. The candidate has outlined what they have done. Students write this kind of conclusion when they cant think of anything else to say. There also seems to be some evaluation which should be separate from the conclusion. It’s not comprehensive, detailed or well reasoned.
WAGOLL – Merit “My first aim was to find out whether boys or girls are achieving better in the education system. By examining official statistics for both perspectives. I found out that statistically girls are more likely to achiever higher grades and go on to study in high education. However, my primary research did not show recognition to experiencing these gender differences. My second aim was then to find out why there may be gender differences in the education system. Research using the British Journal of Educational Studies and an article in the Telegraph explained that boys may be underachieving due to traditional male traits not being fulfilled within education. ” Which words best describe the conclusion The first thing you should have noticed is that the pupil has drawn a link between conclusion and original aim. You should use your aims as sub- headings within your conclusion. This is much more detailed. The conclusion is based on evidence. However, considering that two aims are discussed in such a short passage it isn’t comprehensive.
WAGOLL – Distinction “Aim 3: Rates of Alcoholism in America I learnt that alcohol is the number one drug problem in America and there are more than 12 million people suffering from the disease. I also found that annually there are more than 100, 000 deaths in America alone that are caused by excessive alcohol consumption. Whilst I expected the majority of the statistics there are some that are quite shocking. One statistic that I did not expect was that teenagers who begin drinking alcohol before the age of 15 are four times more likely to suffer from alcoholism than those who do not drink until the age of 21. I found this rather alarming as I didn’t not realise that the age you start drinking has such an impact on the likelihood of suffering from this disease. ” Which words best describe the conclusion - Again, notice the very clear link between the conclusion and the aims. The use of subheading ensures clarity and relevance. The conclusion details what they have found out. Clearly the conclusion is evidence based. However, you should have noticed how this candidate has incorporated what they have found out during their research and their own valid opinions. Comparing the amount written and the detail, this conclusion is comprehensive.
