Indigenous University Bridging Program
Acknowledgments Mount Royal University is situated within Treaty 7, the traditional lands of the Niitsitapi, the Blackfoot Peoples and Confederacy, consisting of the Kainai, Piikani and Siksika Nations; the Dene Peoples of the Tsuut’ina Nation, and the Sioux Peoples of the l’yarhe Nakoda Nations of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Wesley. We also acknowledge the Métis Nation, as well as all residents of these lands. We are all Treaty People.

Program Eligibility • Self-declared Indigenous ancestry (First Nations Status or Non-Status, Métis and Inuit). • Meet academic requirements. (Math 10 -1, English 20 -1 minimum) • Submit an IUBP application and provide a high school and/or post-secondary transcript or Detailed Academic Report (DAR) to complete the application process.
Program Intake Process Submit an application before May 22, 2020 Obtain registration access through IUBP staff and register for classes Secure funding (Most deadlines are around June 1 st) Provide transcripts or Detailed Academic Reports to complete application (High school and / or postsecondary) Unofficial is preferred Acceptance letter and academic plan (based on transcripts) sent to you within 3 weeks

Funding / Sponsorship Band Funding … Find out your band’s application process & deadlines. Every First Nation has a post-secondary program that can answer your questions and provide application forms. Skills Investment Program… Provincial grant; must be out of school for one year, unemployed or underemployed, must have completed a 2019 tax return and indicated an income of $35 K or less for financial eligibility. Applications are completed on paper, and submitted to Tori for a Training Provider Information Form. The completed application will be sent to Edmonton; in 6 -8 weeks you will receive a funding decision letter. The type of application (FT or PT) is dependent upon your academic plan. Only non-credit courses will be considered for approval. BMO Bursary… There are 8 bursaries available each semester for those who have financial need and have been declined for funding in writing. Applicants will complete a budget, and meet with the selection committee. The amount each semester is $3750. NOTE: You cannot obtain a student loan for the Indigenous University Bridging Program Skills Investment Program application deadline is June 19, 2020 Finding Other Options… • Freehorse Family Wellness (Bill C-31) deadline June 15. • Advancing Futures (Youth in care) deadline is June 1. • Self-funding ($700 / course for tuition and books). Fees due August 15.

Frequently Asked Questions YOU SAID THERE IS FAMILY HOUSING, BUT IS THERE ON-CAMPUS DAYCARE? Yes, there is a daycare on campus and the Iniskim Centre has reserved spots for the Indigenous Family Housing students. The cost of the MRU daycare is roughly $1500 per month. HOW MUCH DOES A UNIT COST? Single Housing is roughly $2100/semester (*monthly installment plan available) Family Housing is roughly $485 per month (2 BR) / $868 per month (4 BR) WHAT ABOUT PARKING? There are parking spots reserved for family housing students. When you apply for residence, on the online application there is a place to apply for parking. Parking costs vary between $1040 to $1500 per year. IS THERE A DEADLINE TO APPLY FOR THE INDIGENOUS HOUSING PROGRAM? We accept students on a first come, first served basis. There is no set deadline, but apply once you have been accepted into the Indigenous University Bridging Program.
