Indicators Aotearoa New Zealand Measuring New Zealands wellbeing
Indicators Aotearoa New Zealand Measuring New Zealand’s wellbeing
What is Indicators Aotearoa New Zealand? • Indicators Aotearoa New Zealand will measure our progress and help improve the wellbeing of New Zealanders. • The indicators will track how we’re doing environmentally, socially, and economically. • Indicators Aotearoa New Zealand will inform government policy and investment, ensuring decisions are made through a wellbeing lens.
What are the indicators? • The wellbeing indicators will build on international best practice. • They will incorporate cultural and te ao Māori perspectives. • Some of the indicators will be new, and some will already exist (such as GDP). • Organisations will be able to create a dashboard to track their own progress.
Now, later, and elsewhere The indicators will monitor: • Here and now – the wellbeing of the current generation, eg life satisfaction and health. • Later – what we’re leaving behind for future generations, eg fish stocks and waste. • Elsewhere – how our actions are impacting on other countries, eg foreign aid.
What’s next? • The selection of indicators has started, and will be available from the end of this year. • The final set of indicators will be signed off in early 2019. • We will regularly test the indicators to make sure they are enduring, robust, relevant, and flexible.
How can I have my say? • You can make an online submission on the indicators at Indicators Aotearoa New Zealand – Ngā Tūtohu Aotearoa: Consultation. This will be available on 31 July 2018. • Stats NZ will also be consulting on indicators around Aotearoa. • Keep an eye on our webpage for our calendar.
