Fi enabled thermostats

Income Qualified Program Goals and Strategies (continued) • Provide home shell and weatherization improvements measures such as air infiltration reduction, duct sealing, insulation, and air conditioner tune ups (up to $3, 000 worth of measures per home) in coordination with already existing low income community weatherization programs to maximize potential savings for low income clients; • Provide weatherization measures in low income multi-family units working in conjunction with property owners; and • Address the SW Michigan deferral rate by connecting the customer with community resources that provide more in depth home repair services and coordinating those efforts.

Income Qualified Program Goals and Strategies (continued) Goal 2 strategies: • On-site home energy audits provide auditors with a one-onone opportunity to interact with and educate customers about their energy usage; • A personalized home energy report is provided at the completion of each audit that shows how the customer can increase the energy efficiency of their home; • Provide customers with easy-to-take, every day steps beyond direct install measures to control their energy usage and lower their monthly bill;

Income Qualified Program – future engagement efforts Additionally, I&M is looking to replicate the recent relationship established with Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County, IN with SW Michigan Habitat affiliates through: • Teaching the energy efficiency section in the Habitat Homeownership classes; • Collaborating on aging in home repairs; • Collaborating on new builds; • Referring deferrals to Habitat for Humanity to address home shell issues; and • Sponsoring a Homeowner Refresher Night with Habitat home owners who have had their homes for a set period of time.

Income Qualified Program – future engagement efforts • I&M will create an educational curriculum on energy efficiency for income-qualified customers as well as agencies and community partners. • I&M will be entering in agreements with community actions agencies to work energy audits together and divide the measures accordingly. • I&M will establish relationships with affordable housing developers/providers who are building low-income multifamily housing to address energy efficiency during the design and building of the project. • I&M will work with Fire and Police Departments in municipalities to conduct Home Safety Assessments in low income neighborhoods.

IQ Success Stories The Metea Court Project was an I&M IQW program success story

IQ Success Stories The Metea Court Project was an I&M IQW program success story in 2017. • The Metea Court rehabilitation project included moderate rehab of 100 apartments in Buchanan, Michigan (80 IQ apartments, 20 market rate apartments), including replacement of flooring, surfaces, appliances, cabinets, countertops, windows, and fixtures. • I&M supported this project to address the high electric usage experienced by the customers living in these apartments, by providing rebates for the installation of more efficient electric energy consuming appliances. • Hollander Development Corporation received Low Income Housing Tax Credits from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority and won first prize in the Battle of the Buildings Biggest Loser category for reduced energy consumption for this project.

Wh less each year (average, per apartment, based on Michigan Energy Measures Database values) Some of I&M’s most needy customers directly benefit from these technologies because each customer is responsible for paying their own electric account bill. • The most significant energy saving technology used in the project is the SEER 21 mini split ductless heat pumps, which yield about two-thirds of the total annual energy savings alone.
