Increasing Units – Impact on ADT? • Depends: – ADT unit requirement for Major

Increasing Units – Impact on ADT? • Depends: – ADT unit requirement for Major Prep – Course- major or GE – How units are applied • Issue: English 1 A (4 unit) – Course not required as Major Prep – Course is GE only – Regardless of unit value; only 3 units are required

Summary • GE fixed units– regardless of our college unit increase • Unit increases

Summary • GE fixed units– regardless of our college unit increase • Unit increases in Major can impact viability of ADT • Impact of GE units increase= students take additional units not required for transfer • More units per course; less courses per term; longer stay at Gavilan • Intent of ADT =ensure students only took 60 transferable units for transfer • Campus challenge: – How do we offer GE courses that won’t exceed the fixed amount required for transfer? – How do we deal with “unit creep”? – Increases in units impact our local General Education pattern-already highest unit in region; students complete more units than the 60 required
