• Involuntary Leakage of urine , creating a health or social problem. • -more common in females. • -increases with age , at home , acute care setting , • and in nursing homes. • It predisposes to, perineal rash , bed sores, • UTI , urosepsis , falls , fractures , embarrassment • Isolation , depression , anxiety , sexual dysfunction

Pathobiology • Continence depends on integrity of lower urinary tract function and also on

Pathobiology • Continence depends on integrity of lower urinary tract function and also on presence of adequate mentation, mobility , motivation and manual dexterity. • With age bladder capacity does not change but bladder sensation and contractility decrease. • Detrusor overactivity. • Bladder ischemia and or inflammation. • Urethral length , sphincter strength decreases in women and prostate enlarges in men.
