Online vs Paper & Pencil Test Generic Example Below is a generic table with two generic tests which are either entirely given online or entirely given paper and pencil and a synopsis of how accommodations would look given these two extremes. In the real world, tests are often a combination of the two so it is imperative any accommodator read the testing manuals for any tests he/she is providing to see how each test provides accommodations. Accommodation Online Only Test A Paper & Pencil Only Test B Scribe may become a typist Scribe writes responses Human Reader reads computer screen Reader reads paper test book Stop The Clock Controlled and logged within test environment Controlled manually and logged manually Calculator Provided within the testing platform Hand-held calculator must be provided All regulations and rules contained within this training still apply to any accommodation regardless of testing format! Recap All rules within the inclusions of special populations regulation and this training apply to any accommodation regardless of testing format. (i. e. a scribe in an online or paper environment must still only record information as provided by the student. ) How an accommodation may be provided can vary between online and paper and pencil testing environments. An online test may require technology for an accommodation and a paper test may forbid technology – or any of the grey area in between may be true. If providing accommodations, it is imperative you review all testing literature for the test being given to understand how accommodations are provided for that specific exam. It can differ widely from test to test. (i. e. ACT allows triple time, KPREP does not) If assistance is needed contact DACINFO@education. ky. gov instead of improperly providing accommodations.
