INCLUSION BODY HEPATITIS (IBH)
INCLUSION BODY HEPATITIS (IBH) • Inclusion body hepatitis is caused by adenovirus and characterized by anemia, necrotic and haemorrhagic lesions in liver and haemorrhage in muscles. It affects mainly growers with a mortality of about 30%. It occurs due to stress or immunosuppression in birds. 2
INCLUSION BODY HEPATITIS (IBH) Etiology • Aviadenovirus • DNA virus of aviadenovirus group • Quite resistant virus and found in all poultry rearing areas 3
INCLUSION BODY HEPATITIS (IBH) Pathogenesis • Not known • It produces basophilic/eosinophilic intranuclear inclusions in hepatocytes 4
INCLUSION BODY HEPATITIS (IBH) Characteristic symptoms • Anemia • Sudden mortality 5
INCLUSION BODY HEPATITIS (IBH) Macroscopic features • Muscles and bone marrow become pale and anemic • Swollen and mottled liver with petechiae and necrotic foci 6
INCLUSION BODY HEPATITIS (IBH) Macroscopic features • Atrophy of bursa • Petechiae and ecchymoses in muscles and kidneys • Urates in ureters • Hydropericardium 7
INCLUSION BODY HEPATITIS (IBH) Microscopic features • Intranuclear eosinophilic/basophilic inclusions in hepatocytes • Necrosis and lymphocytic infiltration in liver • Lymphofollicular reaction in trachea • Depletion of lymphoid cells in 8
INCLUSION BODY HEPATITIS (IBH) Diagnosis • Symptoms and lesions • Demonstration of inclusions in impression smear of liver • Blood examination– anemia • Immunodiagnostic test 9
