Moving towards productive beliefs about participation in FSL programs F I X E D M I N D S E T The learning needs of students with special education needs cannot be met in an FSL program. G R O W T H M I N D S E T If a student’s learning needs are not met, changes have to be made to the teaching/learning program.

Moving towards productive beliefs about participation in FSL programs F I X E D

Moving towards productive beliefs about participation in FSL programs F I X E D M I N D S E T Having FSL of instruction offers an additional layer of difficulty that students with special education needs “just don’t need”. G R O W T H M I N D S E T Language learning is a challenging and rewarding experience with the potential to benefit all students. Students with special education needs may benefit from particular strategies and/or supports to meet their individual needs as second language learners.

Moving towards productive beliefs about participation in FSL programs F I X E D

Moving towards productive beliefs about participation in FSL programs F I X E D M I N D S E T Because FSL teachers do not have the resources or training to support students with special education needs, such students would be better served by exemption from FSL. G R O W T H M I N D S E T Teachers need the support of the larger community to create a learning environment that supports all students. FSL teachers, like all teachers, need appropriate training and resources in order to help them support students with special education needs in their classrooms.
