• MOST CONFERENCE PRESIDENTS INHERIT A TEAM AND HAVE TO ESTABLISH THEMSELVES AS THE LEADER
• Begin to build relationships • Earn loyalty by being loyal • Build your team on mutual respect • Win the natural leader and others will follow
• Have “open door” policy for all staff • Secretaries trip • Vacation blocking o July 4 week o Christmas week o How? Birthday, Presidents day, one or two other holidays and one or two personal vacation days.
• At workers meetings and union officers retreat o Wear conference or camp shirts o Take your team to eat, spend time with them o Do activities together, golf, raft trip, etc o Show them you care “King of Care” o Relationship, “you don’t have to be perfect for me to support you”
• Communicate, Communicate! • Give each staff member adequate time • One on One, individual Interviews • Listen, take notes • Ask questions, without interrogation • What are your three most important challenges and what can I do to help?
• Keep the inherited team members who adjust to your leadership style • As you build or replace staff, choose those with whom you enjoy working • Those you trust, respect and know that you can work with successfully
• Make your pastors the most important part of your team o Support your pastors in conflict o Let your pastors know that their happiness and success are primary o Make sure the pastors are treated with respect at the conference office
• You receive loyalty and respect by showing the same • Loyal to God • Loyal to Family • Loyal to Associates
• Make meetings, fun, informative, exciting • Get some creative people involved in planning • Plan at least one special recreational event • On occasion have a very special guest

• Workers meeting budget • Continuing education allowance • Pastors’ contribution • Sponsorship
• You have been called by God to lead your conference. • He will give you the wisdom to build your team in such a way that together, you become His Team! • Together, you will move forward with the goal, not of being re-elected, but of spreading the Gospel to a dying world.
