12/02/1701 My name is Sam and I’m 12 years old. I washing dishes for the local bakery and was earning less that a dollar an hour. One day, I came across some freshly baked bread and I decided to take some to sell on the streets and some for dinner. I thought to myself, the owner would notice a few bread loafs being taken? I thought wrong, I was caught red handed and was convicted for stealing loafs of bread. My sentence was 5 years in jail, but it wasn’t going to be in Britain. They decided to put me on transportation to the new penal colony in the land NSW. The journey was horrible, I had very little food and water. My clothes were dirty and old, I smelt like I hadn’t had a shower in weeks. Life on the ship was not enjoyable, there were sick people, dead rats and all different kinds of pests.
