In Memoriam – Howard W Jones Jr Mandatory retirement from Johns Hopkins, 1978 Established Jones Insitute for Reproductive Medicine, Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk Created first IVF program, resulting in 1981 birth of Elizabeth Jordan Carr (after 41 failed attempts). Invited by the Vatican to help advise Pope John Paul II about assisted reproduction. Appealed to Virginia legislators to stop a bill that would have declared life to begin at conception, which would interfere with medical treatment for infertility. Wrote a total of 12 books.
