ICD-9/ICD-10 Codes Dates • Use ICD-9 codes for dates of service through 9/30/15 • Use ICD-10 codes for dates of service 10/1/15 and beyond • DO NOT submit claims that contain ICD-9 AND ICD-10 codes • Batch claim files can contain both ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes

Code Structure • ICD-9 codes=13, 000 • ICD-10 codes= 68, 000 • ICD-10 3 -7 characters 1 st character is alpha 2 nd character is numeric Characters 3 -7 are alpha or numeric • Always at least 3 characters • Use of decimal after 3 characters

Crosswalk • No direct conversion due to specificity of ICD 10. Some 1 -1 but others 1 -2, 530 • Most codes schools have used have changed • School district examples
