In 1829, George Stephenson, an English mining engineer, developed the Rocket, the first steampowered locomotive.

In the 1830 s a Scottish blacksmith Kirkpatrick Macmillan added pedals to the first bicycles which had been already invented by that time but without pedals. Safer and more comfortable bicecles began to appear in the 1880 s.

I. K. Brunel was the greatest of the great engineers of the 19 th century. Among his great transport inventions are the Great Western, first of the transatlantic steam liners, and his iron ship, the Great Britain, which was build in 1840 in Bristol.

Richard Trevithick, an Englishman, build the world first steam-powered locomotive in 1804. by that time he had already invented a steampowered carriage, but it lasted only one ride. In 1803 he made an improved version of it, which became an ancerstor of the automobile.

Robert Fulton, an A merican engineer, developed a way to use steam power for ships. In 1807, Fulton succtssfully tested the Clermont, a paddle-wheeled steamship, on the Hudson River.
