Intervention Classes 3 groups of 10 to 14 year 11 students attend a Maths intervention session during extended registration sessions (once a week for 40 minutes) • Selection is based on progress data with priority given to disadvantaged students • Topics for the sessions are selected using the assessment analysers to ensure they are targeting areas of weakness for those students • 2 cohorts (September to December and January to May) to target as many students as possible • In previous years this has been for Maths, English and Science- this year being rolled out across more subjects using form tutors to run sessions www. kevi. the 3 rivers. net
Sixth Form Mentoring • 37 sixth form volunteers who work with year 11 students during Wednesday registration • Each sixth former has 2 year 11 students, selected using progress data with priority given to disadvantaged students • Year 11 complete an online revision activity in advance of the session, and then work through exam questions with the support of their sixth form mentor • As well as helping with Maths, the sixth form students can model good study habits and build confidence • First cohort began October 2019, and will run until December. • Second cohort to begin in January www. kevi. the 3 rivers. net
Predicted Papers Analysis of 2017 exams showed that KEVI students performance improved from the first paper to the second, and then again on the third paper. This was attributed to • Predicted papers and topics lists were produced and published on the school website- these proved to be very accurate in particular for the third paper • These papers and topic lists were used to inform revision sessions However, disadvantaged students performance actually declined on each of the three papers. www. kevi. the 3 rivers. net
Predicted Papers In 2018 it was decided that putting the predicted papers on the school website did not guarantee that all students had access to them, and that the only way to do that was to produce paper copies to give out to students • The first time all students would have an exam (i. e. English/Science) after each Maths exam was identified. This was usually the next morning • As soon as each maths exam was completed, staff would work to produce the topic list and predicted papers. This proved very challenging due to photocopying time but was manageable • Staff then gave out predicted papers after English/Science exams, ensuring that all students had a copy www. kevi. the 3 rivers. net
Predicted Papers The results in 2018 and 2019 showed that this had a positive effect on student outcomes, with all students including disadvantaged improving on each exam when compared to national averages. There is a strong cost implication to photocopy 2 sets of predicted papers for each student, but it was felt this would be preferable to just photocopying sets for disadvantaged students. www. kevi. the 3 rivers. net
