Reform proposal • Introduction • Problem( Context and Rational) • Topic: improving classroom transaction process in social science for student-teachers • Objectives • Action • Potential Benefits
Rationale • Drawbacks of present system of teaching at DIET in social science • No focus on understanding, analyzing, cause-effect relationship • Focus on summative evaluation-not engaging learners continuously • Gap between theory and field situation • Little scope for reflection – leading to memorising
Objectives: Student-teachers will be able to: • Develop knowledge of content and methods of teaching social science • Enhance skills of teaching social science in constructivist approach
Actions: 1. Selection of sample students and construction of tools 2. Development of strategies/plan and pre-test 3. Actual classroom transaction for student-teachers -techniques of transaction(Group work, group discussionpresentation, project work, school visit) -continuous assessment of student-teachers(obs. sch) 4. Demonstration lesson 5. Planning by the student-teacher 6. Lesson transaction by student-teachers at school(pre and post conference) 7. Post-test of the student-teachers
Evaluation Plan • Pre-test and post test score will be compared to know the effectiveness of the intervention. • Pre and post observation of the classes taken by the studentteachers to assess development of skills. • The information collected in the two events through rubrics will be compared.
Benefits • Looking critically to the social science teaching for student-teachers • Capacity building of the teacher-educators • Creating atmosphere of collaboration • Empowerment of student-teachers on analyzing and reflecting different issues/topics • Learners to be benefitted • Planning for in-service training of teachers
