IMPORTANT PARTS TO THE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE Transportation
IMPORTANT PARTS TO THE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE Transportation Systems
1. CRANKSHAFT • A heavy steel forging that carries offset portions that create circular motion. The Crank converts the vertical piston motion to rotary motion. CRANK PORTION/ JOURNAL BEARINGS
2. FLYWHEEL • Mounted at the rear of the Crankshaft. Its mass provides the inertia to carry the pistons through the unproductive strokes of the cycle. Helps make the engine run smooth.
3. CAMSHAFT • Straight steel shaft with many cam lobes associated for each individual valve. Each lobe of the camshaft precisely lifts the valve at the right moment to allow air in and allow exhaust gas to escape.
4. CYLINDER BLOCK • Basically the Engine block that houses the Pistons. Forged out of one piece of material. PISTON

5. FUEL SYSTEM: Provides fuel to the engine FUEL LINE FUEL RAILS FUEL INJECTORS FUEL PUMP ENGINE GAS TANK
6. COOLING SYSTEM: Keeps the Engine cool WATER PUMP THERMOSTAT ENGINE BLOCK RADIATOR HEATER CORE
7. LUBRICATING SYSTEM: Keeps the engine system lubricated ENGINE BLOCK OIL FILTER CRANK CASE OIL PUMP
8. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: Uses electricity from the battery to start engine and run accessories ALTERNATOR ACCESSORIES REGULATOR BATTERY STARTER
9. DISTRIBUTOR IGNITION Distributor divides up the electricity SYSTEM: to power each spark plug individually DISTRIBUTOR REGULATOR SPARK PLUGS
10. COIL PACK IGNITION SYSTEM: Each coil pack provides electricity to a pair of spark plugs COIL PACKS REGULATOR SPARK PLUGS
