INTRODUCTION Importance of Basic Sciences & Humanities to Engineering Students MATHEMATICS PHYSICS CHEMISTRY COMMUNICATION SKILL SUMMARY
NTRODUCTION Basic Science and Humanities supports efficiently the Engineering Department by providing quality training to students. Efforts to strengthen the foundation of every student is taken care of to make them ready in solving real life problems. Engineering as a stream of study demands all the basic knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and ignoring these streams can never make a perfect engineer. The Humanities Department, plays a pivotal role in developing the Communication Skills of students, which is of prime importance to the industry.
MATHEMATICS Mathematics, the queen of sciences is the basis for all branches of Science, Engineering and Technology. Any complex ideas can be logically expressed by equations and formulae. Mathematics itself is a language through which difficult problems can be addressed.
PHYSICS Physics is an important subject to understand concepts of engineering and technology. The experiments in course of practical physics are designed to achieve definite quantitative results. A laboratory experiment offers an opportunity to the students to familiarize themselves with various instruments, which they read in theory and this finds application in industry, engineering and everyday life. Physics experiments helps students in understanding the nature of science.
CHEMISTRY The use of chemistry within the field of engineering can broadly be divided into two main areas: The first area is concerned with the application of chemistry as the basis of power generating machinery, such as combustion engines, for example. Knowledge of chemistry and chemical reactions is required in the design and subsequent production of such power generating equipment. The second area of use is chemical engineering, where the main purpose is to transform raw materials into more valuable or useful forms.
COMMUNICATION SKILL Good communication skills are indispensable for the success of any professional. The English language has become essential in the lives of young people who aspire to advance their career anywhere in the world. Language learning is not the same as learning any other subject. It is not confined to writing an examination and getting a degree and award. The four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking have to practiced. Being able to communicate well is the most important factor when seeking a placement in an organization.
SUMMARY This Department is devoted to foster the fundamental principles and understanding of science to enhance the student’s basic knowledge of Engineering. Its objective is to provide value-based education to budding scientists and engineers. Engineering as a stream of study demands the basic knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and ignoring these streams can never make a perfect engineer. The English Language Lab through communication and soft skills training, enables students to prepare for life, in a globally competitive environment.
