Implementation of One Notebook in Chemistry Lab Classes

Implementation of One. Notebook in Chemistry Lab Classes @ Magdalena Wajrak (m. wajrak@ecu. edu. au) Content Library: Collaboration Space: Lab Manual (interactive) Lab Report Templates (structured – focus is on content) Teacher Only Space Class Feedback on completed Lab Reports (read by students) Sharing and data analysis during lab class – immediate feedback on student’s results (focus on understanding before leaving the lab class) Student Notebooks: sketching diagrams of experimental set-up, inserting photos and videos of chemical reactions, using stylus pen to write chemical equations and performing data analysis using Excel program. Improved engagement during laboratory classes! Process: Semester 2, 2019 - SCC 1123 (foundation of chemistry unit, 55 students) and SCC 1201 (advanced chemistry unit, 23 students), each student assigned particular Surface Pro and stylus pen, 26 Surface Pros on loan from Microsoft (Wasim Anwar and Sheldon Jones), assistance from ECU Information Technology Services Centre staff (Mariet Labuschagne and Sam Prosser). Feedback: Overall very positive, however, still need to address issues such as; students require more One. Note training, wifi drop-outs causing syncing problems and movement of drawings, photos and videos inserted within lab reports.
