British immigration • Cause: industrialisation in England = surplus of agricultural workers = moved to Upper & Lower Canada • 1815 -1840: 532 000 immigrants get off boats at the Port of Quebec City most are Irish immigrants. • Consequences of this immigration: – French-Canadian population (Upper and Lower Canada) in 1800 = 80% de la population – French-Canadian population (Upper and Lower Canada) in 1840 = 50% de la population
