Ireland 1846 - 1854 To escape from the potato famine in Ireland. Sweden 1868 - 1869 Drought and too many people led to famine. Cuba/Caribbean Island Nations 1965 - Unfair government; better way of life Afghanistan 2000 - To leave the war refugee camps.

Norway 1860's To get land to farm. There was a lot of land here and it was cheap. Greece 1890 - 1924 To get jobs that were not in farming. Asia • China • Japan • Korea 1849 - 1924 To earn money. Most planned to return home and did not want to settle here. Italy 1880 - 1920 Too many people, no jobs, disease, and a government that taxed them and didn't help them.
